25 June 2009

Eleven people came to a meeting of the steering group, which was held on Thursday 25th June 2009 in the Marriage Room, Mountfield and lasted for an hour and a half.

The Electric Palace will not be showing 'The Age of Stupid'.  However, they are planning to show 'The End of the Line' and suggested we link ourselves to this.  The date of the showing is 23rd August and the possibility of putting our display boards in the foyer was discussed.

Following advice from the Charities Commission, it was agreed to adopt the phrase 'charitable company exempt from registration' for use on the website and stationery.  Four volunteers came forward to act as directors.  A membership application form will be circulated to the steering group.  The treasurer, having sought advice, recommended a Co-operative Bank 'community account' and has requested an application pack.

Following the 'visioning transition' discussion at the previous meeting, an inaugural meeting of a 'heart & soul' group has been held, which nine people attended.  These meetings will continue to be held monthly, at different venues, and information will be put onto the website.

There are now 43 members of the website, with activity continuing to increase slowly and steadily.

A vote of thanks was proposed to the organiser of Green Wheels Day, which was held successfully on 14th June.

Volunteers came forward to man the TTB stand at the three events during Awareness Week.

There was a discussion about the proposed 'our town' event.  The idea is to have an event, possibly at the Arts Centre, to celebrate Bridport.  It would be an open event to encompass all ages and any creative ideas; music, art, writing, dance or simply 'being there'.  A timescale was discussed but no decision made.  It was considered important to make contact with schools as soon as possible and a volunteer came forward to pursue this.

A volunteer came forward to liaise with those on the interested people list who do not have email and to set up an information dissemination scheme.

The last green drink was very poorly attended by both the steering group and the public.  It was agreed that there should always be a member of the steering group in attendance and all members were encouraged to attend.

The press officer gave a brief report on the reluctance of the local press to print stories, preferring to favour advertisers.  A volunteer came forward to investigate policy with the local papers to find out the reason for their reluctance.  An additional press officer is needed and an email request will be circulated.

The TT stand at the Tolpuddle Martyrs Fayre is going ahead and volunteers to man the stand have already come forward.

The steering group plan to meet again on 23rd July 2009.
