28 May 2009

Sixteen people came to a meeting of the steering group, which was held on Thursday 28th May 2009 in the Beach & Barnicott and lasted two-and-a-half hours.

The first half hour of the meeting was given over to a discussion on ‘visioning transition’, which was led by the two volunteers who had attended the DA21-organised TT training days.

A volunteer came forward to act as treasurer.

There are now 40 members of the website and activity is building slowly.

Those who attended a meeting of the logo group have decided to design the logo in-house.   The group put forward an interim typeface and colour scheme to use until a logo has been designed and there were no objections to this.   At the same meeting, an idea was suggested to develop an ‘our town’ themed multi-activity arts event as an alternative way of involving the town in the project.   It was decided to leave the discussion of this until a later steering group meeting.

A funding application has been submitted to help towards the costs of the cycling event.

There was unanimous agreement to a suggestion that the group join LETS.

Approaches have been made to both the Electric Palace and the Arts Centre about the screening of ‘The Age of Stupid’ but as yet no agreement has been reached with either venue.

£368 was raised at the Vin Garbutt evening.   A raffle was successfully arranged at the last minute by a volunteer, for whom there was a vote of thanks.

Another funding application has been made and information on possible further grants was passed round.   It was agreed that it would be best if there is a core group to oversee and keep a record of all funding applications but that each individual application is made by the team responsible for the event the funding is being applied for.

Other subjects discussed at the meeting were the content being prepared for the display boards, the possibility of approaching local craft groups when the time comes to organise ‘the great re-skilling’, the disused Woolworths site, the plastic bag group and upcoming local events.

There is likely to be a Dorset TT stall at the Tolpuddle Martyrs Fayre and volunteers may be needed to help man it.

There were no objections to the ‘conflict of interest’ document circulated to the group prior to the meeting.

The steering group plan to meet again on 25th June 2009.
