26 March 2009

Fourteen people came to a meeting of the steering group, which was held on Thursday 26th March 2009 in the Town Hall and lasted just over two hours.

There was general agreement to the suggestion of putting a précis of the minutes onto the website, along with a page listing the members of the steering group.

The necessary paperwork has been completed and sent to Companies House and we should receive a company number soon.   The next step will be to apply for charitable status.   TTB is a not-for-profit organisation so there is no requirement for notification on Data Protection Regulations.

There are currently 30 members of the website.   More activity is needed and will be encouraged.   A further meeting of the moderators will be organised.   The possibility of having business links on the site was discussed but no decision made.

There was a report on the street survey, which went well and was a successful means of communicating with the public.   A report has been put on the website and an article appeared in the local press.

It was agreed that information to interested people should remain in on-line form only, as paper mail outs could be prohibitively expensive.

There is still no news from the organisers of the logo competition.   It was agreed to make one last attempt at contact and then open the competition to the public with the aim of launching and/or declaring a winner during Awareness Week.

Plans for the cycling event on 14th June 2009 are progressing and the date and initial information will be posted on the website.   Ideas for games and events was requested and a name for the day was discussed.   ‘Green Wheels’ was decided on as the name, with ‘celebrating cycling’ as an additional slogan.

With TTB being represented at events throughout Awareness Week, it was agreed that display boards will be needed.   Volunteers will be organised to set up a sub-group to produce display material.   Plenty of volunteers will be needed throughout Awareness Week to represent TTB.

Two volunteers came forward to take on the task of researching and making grant applications for funding.   There was a discussion on whether TTB should offer advertising facilities to businesses but the general feeling was against this.

The musical event has been changed to a day earlier, 14th June, and the performer changed to Vin Garbutt.   The possibility of regular musical events was discussed but no decision made.

There was a discussion on whether other local groups should have their own page within the TTB website or a dedicated forum.

There was discussion regarding the politicisation of TTB and the difference between a member of a political party genuinely promoting their own work in this field and the cynical bandwagon-jumping of politicos trying to boost their green credentials.   It was agreed that whilst TTB remains apolitical as a group it has no jurisdiction over others talking about the subject.

The steering group plan to meet again on 23rd April 2009.
