25 March 2010

Fifteen people came to a meeting of the steering group, which was held on Thursday 25th March 2010 in the chapel and lasted just under two hours.

It was agreed to make an application for funding to cover the cost of printing a new TTB leaflet and part of the cost of upgrading the website.

The Heart & Soul group held their monthly meeting, where they discussed their feelings towards transition towns.

The Young Transitioners group reported that the Colfox Eco-Club will meet again in the new term, when plans will be made for a joint stall with TTB at the Charter Fair.   West Bay Sea Scouts have shown an interest in transition and contact will be made with them.

The A&E group reported on early plans, including the design of a new leaflet, a logo competition, a regular ‘green teas’ event at the chapel and the development of a media plan.   It was requested that any publicity needed for TTB events be done via this group to ensure consistency of style.

There were reports on the current work of BREG and Bridport Community Orchard.

A working group has been formed to develop the potential of the space available at the chapel.

It was agreed to set up four new sub-groups: energy saving, transport, food and waste.   It was agreed this must include liaising with groups already working in these areas in Bridport to ensure TTB work was complementary to and not in competition with them.

There has been a meeting of the website working group to discuss the structure of the upgraded website, which is needed as the current one has become too large for the server.   A new site is now being built with the capacity to deal with all TTB’s sub-groups as well as a forum.

A student from Bournemouth University would like to meet with TTB in connection with her dissertation on the subject of transition towns.   A volunteer came forward to arrange a meeting with her.

There was a report from the Dorset TT gathering, where Bridport was well-represented by a large group of steering group members and the general impression was that TTB is progressing well.

TTB now have an entry on the Transition Network website and anybody wishing to register as an individual in the 'People Directory' can do so.   Volunteers were requested to be the official contact for media, volunteers and the website.

A TTB representative is needed who is willing to attend BLAP meetings four times a year and a request will be sent round for a volunteer.

A volunteer came forward to act as TTB representative with Friends of the Earth.

The steering group plan to meet again on 22nd April 2010.
